Academics
Welcome to Academics in the School District of Janesville
At the School District of Janesville, student achievement and growth are at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our commitment to excellence, our academic programs are designed to inspire curiosity, empower critical thinking, and equip every student with the tools they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Partnering for Success
We know that student success relies on strong collaboration between educators, families, and the Janesville community. We invite you to explore the links below to learn more about our specific grade-level curricula, academic standards, graduation requirements, and the many resources available to support your student’s educational journey.
A Standards-Aligned, Comprehensive Curriculum
Our Learning & Innovation Department oversees a rigorous, articulated, and sequential curriculum that is fully aligned with the Wisconsin Academic Standards. From our early learning 4-year-old (P4J) community partnerships and Pre-K through 5th-grade elementary schools to our middle and comprehensive high schools—alongside our specialized charter options—we provide a comprehensive educational journey. Across all disciplines, we intentionally integrate literacy, mathematics, and modern technology to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Preparing Students for Life After Graduation
We believe education extends far beyond the traditional classroom. Through our robust Academic and Career Planning (ACP) framework (grades 6–12), students are actively supported in discovering their unique strengths, setting future goals, and mapping out a personalized path to post-secondary success. Whether a student's journey leads to a four-year university, a technical college, military service, an apprenticeship, or direct entry into the workforce, SDJ provides:
-
Real-World Learning: Work-based learning opportunities, internships, and career exploration.
-
Advanced Opportunities: Dual-credit courses that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school.
-
Targeted Support: Comprehensive student support systems, including Title I programming, to ensure every child has equitable access to a high-quality education.
